Learn - iPhoto '11 Edition App Reviews

A must have when you start utilising the full potential of your Mac.

I’ve had my MacBook Pro for 2 years and never bothered to learn iPhoto. I’ve been too busy learning photoshop and it has a steep learning curve. Was looking for lessons in iPhoto and ran across this gem. The course is easy to follow and if you’re entertaining the thought of editing your photos with iPhoto, this is a must have. Unlike most courses that assume you know what they’re discussing (which you don’t, thats why you bought it in the first place) this one actually explains the in and outs without insulting your intelligence. Very easy to understand and gives great examples on how to perform tasks in iPhoto. I have Aperture, iMovie, Pages and a few more apps on my MacBook pro I want to learn how to use. When I decide to get another app to learn them, The Mac U will get more of my money…lol! HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

A must for someone new to iPhoto!

As a new iMac user this video course is great! It is very thorough and easy to follow. I usually grab a book on the subject but it is alot easier to learn with a visual aid like this course. Discovered several things that could be done with Iphoto that I was not aware of. Looking forward to applying what I have learned and it will be convenient to refer back to the app on things that I have forgotten!

A Must Have

This Is a Great way to Learn much better then books. I Love it. very good price also… Ibe waiting for MORE Traning Sessons Thank you MacU….

Great Training

I have been using iPhoto since about 2001 when I got my first digital camera. There have been many advancements over the years and it is hard to keep up for the casual user. This training is great in its scope and straight forward presentation. Previously I had done the tutorials on the Apple website; they are good but it is cumbersome. This is far superior for the ease of use. Highly recommended.

Worked great for me...

This training was a big help. The lessons are well thought out and to the point. I have watched most of the tutorials and am much more comfortable working with iPhoto than before. The Photo Stream lesson was a nice addition, I have now got that setup with my iPhone!

This was EXTREMELY Helpful! Thanks

Thank you so much for creating this app! I was struggling with Iphoto for the last two months. I love the way you broke down each task into separate training videos. Simply the best. The digital notepad that comes with it is cool, too. I would definitely buy more of your training videos so please create others for us Mac lovers. I just downloaded the Updated version - great additions. While I havent gone through everything yet, what I seen has helped tremendously. I just saw one bad review and thats ashame because I think the guy just didnt understand how to access this app (which is very simple) - if he had I doubt he (or she) would have anything bad to say about this. If you want to learn Iphoto, this is an awesome tool, period. Scott S. New Jersey

Still not working

Update (Dec. 17, 2011): In response to Scott Ss review: I have hundreds of apps on my Mac. To infer that I dont know "how to access this app" is quite condescending. Let me see… to access it, do I locate it first and perhaps double click… As for my review, I only am reporting on my experience. Granted, yours (and others) may be different. Good for you. As I said, I use many, many apps. Most work great. Some have problems (bugs which are annoying for the most part). And some just dont work to begin with (cant even get it started… just spinning beach ball requiring a force quit). If this app worked great, or worked but was buggy, I would say that too. This app for me though just doesnt even get started. Thats all Im saying. Maybe others might find that info helpful. As I pointed out in the first part of this review, I have other apps of a similar nature that work fine, so this leads me to believe that there is something with this app that needs fixing. Lastly, it is so obvious that you are connected to this dev somehow (although I must add that Im positive the same could be said for most devs, and I dont have a problem with that. Just another form of marketing a product). While I could refer to many quotes you used to lend credence to my case, your statement for the updated version of "great additions" for bug fixes and one addtional topic seems a bit over the top, as does the phrase "Simply the best." Compared to what? Have you tried similar products? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Updated (Dec 14, 2011) : I was hoping this update would get this 400mb app that is just sitting on my hard drive working… but still no such luck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First and foremost, this app does not work on my computer, an iMac running the latest version of Lion. Tried numerous times. Only get the spinning beach ball and need to force quit to end the program every time. Without rebooting, I tried "Tutor for Lion" & "SCOtutor for Lion." Both these apps work fine. Then I investigated the reviews for this app and for "Learn - Lion Edition." I did this by clicking on the name of the reviewer to see what other apps they had reviewed, usually a good sign as to whether they are truly objective reviews, or friends and family of the developer. The first 10 reviews for "Learn - Lion Edition" were done by reviewers that only had that one review. For the five reviews for this app, only one reviewer had a single other app review. Bottom line, buyer beware. This app did not work for me and all the five star reviews appear to be bogus.

Very Good App

This tutorial is amazing. This is way better than reading a manual. Thank you Mr. Swanson!

A big help!

Very informative and detailed videos. This is really a great way to learn for me. Being able to take notes while watching the videos is a nice touch too. After having this App now for a few months and watching some of the lessons multiple times i have become more proficient with iPhoto than just about any other program on my Mac!

Nice!

Viewing these video training lessons has given a big boost to my comprehension of iPhoto. If you are uncomfortable when using iphoto this App is for you.

Excellent, clear tutorials

Very well designed and easy to follow tutorial. Ive been an iPhoto user for years but the tutorial has taught me a number of tricks I didnt know about. Very nice!

Hangs up occasionally?

Its a great four buck video training class, I got a lot more out of it than the iPhoto Dummy Book! One little thing threw me off to start with - it mis-spells Organize in the first video, got me wondering whether the whole show was a real amateur job! But that was the only error I caught. Please update the earlier videos to include PhotoStream on the sidebar, I was trying to follow along and the ommision of PhotoStream in the left sidebar threw me off. On last thing, I occasionally had the program freeze up and had to use Force Quit but it wasnt too big of a hassle.

Relatively comprehensive and easy to follow, but...

... somewhat slow & monotone in presentation. Presentation preferences differ, however, so not necessarily an issue (unless one prefers a quicker pace and/or a spirited presentation).

Excellent!

As a person brand new to Apple products, this was a great way to learn about iPhoto. I was hoping to get in to the store for One on One training, but this has to be so much better! I was able to learn in the comfort of my own home, stop and start as needed, and even have the option of typing notes along the side of each lesson. Anyone that hasnt learned to use iPhoto yet should take the time and watch this course. I cant wait to get started organizing all of my favorite photos. I LOVED that it showed me how to import all of my photos from Facebook too. I have been posting my favorite photos for years to Facebook. I was able to retreive all of them last night and put them into my library on my MacBook :) Also, the person that taught the course was very professional and pleasant to listen to. The volume of his voice was perfect and his pictures were so beautiful to look at that it made watching even more fun.

Makes it all work!

I am new to Mac and definitely new to iPhoto, having used Photoshop Elements for years. I could have spent days and weeks fumbling through iPhoto and never found all of its features. This explains them clearly and concisely and allows me to go back and review as needed. It was interesting while being informative. Highly recommended!

IPhoto 11

Ive been working with I Photo for some time now and had no idea what I was missing out on relative to the FANTASTIC featutes that are in the program. BOY did this video open my eyes; thanks a MILLION! Mel Lyons

Best Beginner to Pro Guide

I took a class at an Apple Store and was sorely disappointed...I was ready to abandon IPhoto. I knew the program was powerful, but I did not find it intuitive. However, this tutorial saved my sanity and gave me an outlet for my creativity. It moved at a good pace, giving me so much information but in bite size chunks so that I could process, practice and, some day, perfect. Thank you!

Video?

I am unable to view any video with this app, am I doing something wrong? any advise woud be appreciated.

I DIDN

I didnt know there were more features in iPhoto until I reviewed this tutorial. I which there were other tutorials like this for all apple products, devices and APP store software, no matter what it is. I would gladly pay a reasonable price for them .

Outstanding!

I found this to be an outstanding introduction to iPhoto 11. I actually bought and watched Learn iPhoto 11 first, and based on what I saw, I was encouraged to go ahead and buy iPhoto 11. The course is organized around the three main themes of how to organize, edit, and share your photos. There are approximately 20 individual videos averaging perhaps 5-6 minutes each. Each video is very focused on one or a few features of iPhoto, and illustrates very slowly and methodically how to use those features. I enjoyed the lack of hyperbole; the videos are simply a clear and straightforward explanation. Collectively, theyll save a ton of time in coming up to speed on using iPhoto. This is a tremendous value for the price.
